Odisha: Empty Coaches Of Tapaswini Express Catch On Fire, No Casualties

Puri: In a shocking incident, empty coaches of Puri-Hatia Tapaswini Express caught on fire today afternoon after the train arrived at Puri station. The fire was reported from coach S/4 and spread to coach S/5.

Reportedly, the coaches were getting cleaned after the train's arrival in Puri when smoke started emanating at around 12:55 pm. No passengers were present in the scene therefore no injuries or casualties have been reported.

Fire brigade and Railway Protection Force immediately reached the spot to douse the flames. Cause of fire is unknown and will be investigated, said railway authorities.

Senior officers from Bhubaneswar and Khurda Road also reached Puri to assess the damage. S/4 coach had been badly damaged as it is the origin point of the fire, as per reports from Puri Station. S/5 and S/3 coaches have also been partially affected at the end(vestibuled) part.

AC coaches and coaches from S/6 onwards were cut off from the rake by station staff to prevent the fire from spreading. Efforts were made to ensure that the Tapaswini Express departed at the right time from Puri. Three sleeper coaches were also attached to the train.
