Odisha: Elephant Calf Dies After Falling Into Trench In Sundergarh

Sundergarh: In an unfortunate incident, an elephant calf died after falling into a trench near Mahipani under Bisra forest range here last night.

According to reports, the trench had been dug by Railways Department. Three-month-old calf had separated from the herd last night and had fallen into the trench, suspect locals.

On intimation, Forest Department officials reached the spot and recovered the carcass. Meanwhile, locals had started worshipping the jumbo. Further probe into the matter is on. Officials have informed that the jumbo will be buried after post-mortem.

On the other hand, jumbo scare has struck Dhenkanal as two persons have been admitted to hospital after being injured in an attack by a tusker in Koria area. The jumbo had entered Ward number 13 and panic had struck the area. Till last reports came in, forest officials were trying to bring the jumbo under control.
