Cuttack: The stage is set for elections today in all the bar associations affiliated to the Odisha State Bar Council (OSBC). Reportedly, elections in all 165 affiliate bar associations in the state are being held on one day, Saturday.

This time elections are being implemented in 'one bar, one vote' rule. The rule is part of a guideline set by apex Supreme Court in 2015 in order to identify the number of sincere practising advocates in various courts across the country. The rule allows only one voting right to an advocate.

Reports stated that 27,414 are participating in this year's elections. For Bhubaneswar Bar Association, three candidates are contesting for the president post and five for the secretary post.

OSBC secretary J K Samantasinghar said that all bar associations in the state have been provided with their respective voters' list. On February 24, the OSBC had unanimously passed a resolution to implement the 'one bar, one vote' rule for the elections.
