Cuttack: The Indian Medical Association in Odisha has extended its support to the nationwide closure of non-essential medical services on June 17 to show solidarity with doctors in West Bengal and support the demand for a special legislation to make assault on doctors a non-bailable offence.

Doctors across the country have been on protest over the past few days after two junior doctors at NRS Hospital in Kolkata were allegedly beaten up by the kin of a 75-year-old patient who died there on night of June 10.

In view of this, IMA Odisha has asked all the doctors both in government and private practice to stop work at the outpatient departments (OPDs) for 24 hours on June 17 (Monday) demanding formulation of a stringent act to ensure protection of doctors in the State.
