Odisha DGP Reviews Poll Preparedness, Appreciates Efforts Of SPs For Achieving Targets

Cuttack: Odisha DGP RP Sharma has been conducting field visits across the State for spot assessment and election preparedness as many top leaders from different political parties have already launched their poll campaigning.

While he has already visited Berhampur, Koraput and Sambalpur Ranges, he will be visiting other Ranges of the State in due course of time. Today he took stock of the poll preparedness with Commissioner of Police, Range IGs and DIGs, DCPs and SPs at State Police Headquarters in Cuttack through video conferencing.

In the meeting he emphasized on the free, fair, transparent, impartial and incident free election in the State, enforcement of Model Code of Conduct, guidelines for the police arrangement and security arrangements including the visit of VIPs and VVIPs.

Sharma asked the SPS/DCPs in the State to make adequate preparation for the purpose and leave no stone unturned for an incident free election.

In the first video conference held on January 28, Sharma had fixed some specific targets for the District SPs for execution before the polling. The targets included bounding down of persons u/s 110 CrPc, seizure of illegal fire arms, seizure of illicit liquor and execution of NBWs.

Today he reviewed the progress of achievement of the targets District wise. He reviewed the progress of achievement with effect from February 1 to March 29. He appreciated the efforts of some SPs who have done exceedingly well during the period. He called upon the SPs to work sincerely and diligently for a smooth and incident free election.

In the review meeting, it was found that 217 number of illegal arms and weapons have been recovered State wide from February 1 till date. Similarly 58,930 litres of foreign liquor and illicit distilled (ID) liquor have been seized. 12,134 NBW cases have been executed or otherwise disposed off and 2,564 persons have been bound down under 110 CrPc within the stipulated period i.e from February 1 to March 29.

In the meeting, Sharma asked the SPs of Maoist-affected Districts to make extra preparation for the election process. He told the SPs of these districts to place their requirement of helicopter and satellite phone sets to ADGP (Operation) forthwith.

A threadbare discussion was held with the SPs on various election related issues like

  1. Requirement of manpower.
  2. Deployment of CAPF.
  3. Transport and Communication.
  4. Preparedness for Anti-Naxalite operation.
  5. Collection of intelligence.
  6. Planning of operation.
  7. Security of VIPs/ VVIPs visit for campaigning.
  8. Security of candidates.
  9. Watching political situation and rivalry.
  10. Implementation of model code of conduct.
  11. Knowledge about electoral offences.
  12. Strict and prompt action to be taken on election related cases.
  13. Accommodation of CAPF and mobilized personnel
  14. Enforcement drive.
  15. Crowd regulation during VVIP visits.

All the pending NBWs in the State have been displayed in the Odisha Police website. All the SPs have been instructed to display the list of the pending NBWs on the notice board of Police Station. The DGP has requested to the citizens to provide information on the persons against whom NBWs are pending to the police station.

Amongst others, all Senior Police Officers of State Police Headquarters including ADGP Crime, Director SCRB, ADGP (L&O), ADGP (Operation), ADGP (Mod), IGP (Personnel), IGP (CR), IGP (Crime), IGP (Hdqrs) were present in the meeting.
