Odisha: Dense Fog Blankets Twin City, Normal Life Disrupted, Flights Delayed

Bhubaneswar: In an unexpected shift in atmosphere, a dense fog blanketed several parts of Twin City Cuttack-Bhubaneswar early today morning throwing normal life out of gear. After Makar Sankranti, the temperature was beginning to warm up when this sudden change has taken everyone by surprise.

Director SC Hota of Biju Patnaik International Airport informed that flights have been delayed till 11 am and further updates would be available later in the day. The operation of 5 flights-Air India Bhubaneswar-Delhi, IndiGo flights including Kolkata-Bhubaneswar-Guwahati, Chennai-Bhubaneswar-Bengaluru, Kochi-Bhubaneswar-Kochi and Kolkata-Bhubaneswar- Mumbai were delayed due to intense fog at Bhubaneswar airport, stated reports.

Normal life was also affected as vehicular movement slowed down due to poor visibility. Office goers and school students travelling in the Twin City said that they reached their destinations very late as bus drivers had to be cautious while driving amidst thick blanket of fog. Till 9 am in the morning, cars and bikes had their headlights on to navigate their way through the fog.

Reports stated that the regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that the fog situation will continue for the next couple of days.
