Odisha: Denied Land For Burial, Christian Family Buries Kin's Body In Backyard

Keonjhar: A tribal family at Mahadeijoda under Sadar block of Keonjhar district were denied to perform the last rites of a member for being converted to Christianity.

The deceased identified as Parshuram Haiburu had died of kidney failure on September 21. It was his last wish to be buried in the village as per Christian tradition.

However, the villagers stopped Parshuram's family members to bury him in the village. His body lay at his home for more than 30 hours.

Later yesterday evening, police reached the village after getting information and tried to convince the villagers.

The villagers agreed that Parshuram can be buried in his own backyard following which his last rites were completed.

Parshuram's widow, Sunita, thanked police for their action and have sought support for education of her two children.
