Bhubaneswar: Odisha Crime Branch along with the assistance from Mahendragarh Police of Haryana, arrested a miscreant today for creating a fake WhatsApp group and transmitting sexually explicit and obscene content on that group.

The arrested accused has been identified as Pawan Kumar Agarwalla. Pawan’s present residence is at Narnaul, Haryana, however he is originally a resident of Jatani, Khordha.

Reportedly on October 15, Crime Branch Cyber Police Station received a written information that one person with a particular phone number has created a fake WhatsApp group and has added several persons without their consent. Thereafter he has sent sexually explicit, nude, highly objectionable and obscene messages on that group.

Following this, a case was registered under sections 292 (2) (a) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 67 and 67 A of the Information Technology Act 2000.

During the course of the investigation, it was ascertained that due to personal enmity with one Girdharilal Hallan of IRC village Bhubaneswar, Pawan deliberately created the WhatsApp group in order to defame him. Accused Pawan had used Hallan’s name to create his profile on the messaging app and had sent sexually explicit and obscene content on that group.

A team of Crime Branch officers with the help of Haryana’s Mahendragarh Police arrested Pawan from his present residence at Narnaul yesterday. The mobile phone and SIM card utilised in committing this offence was also been seized from his possession.

He was produced before the CJM Narnaul who permitted 2 days of transit remand to produce the accused before the jurisdictional court in Bhubaneswar. While the accused is set to be produced in the jurisdictional court in Bhubaneswar today, further investigation of the case is currently underway.
