Bhubaneswar: The more the general elections are nearing, the proposed coastal highway in Odisha is seen to be becoming an apple of discord between the BJD and BJP as the saffron party alleges that the ruling BJD Government is deliberately dilly-dallying the matter while the BJD turned the tables on its political bête noire.

Convening a press meet today, senior MLA and BJD general secretary Sanjay Das Burma burst, “Coastal Highway project is betrayal to the people of Odisha. It lacks BJP-led Centre’s sincerity but teems with politicking.”

“Simply expanding the existing old road and stamping it as national highway is nothing but a big betrayal to the people of Odisha by an elected Central Government in the post independence era. The Union Minister is using the NHAI for flexing his political influence,” Burma fumed.

Earlier in the day, BJD spokesperson Sameer Mohanty had stated, “With the infrastructural development, income generation is augmented. The people of Odisha won’t go outside as immigrant labourers. The BJD Government here is protesting the coastal highway project apprehending that Modi will take the whole credit and BJD will lag behind here in the State.”

“Since long, the Centre has already prepared DPR. Tender process and all related processes meant for the proposed bridge across Chilika was completed. The then minister and incumbent MLA Sanjay Das Burma should reply why he had stressed on change in the alignment. After its compliance, the present Revenue Minister also stressed on alignment and it need to be replied. There shouldn’t be any politics over infrastructural development. BJD is resorting to nasty politics over coastal highway,” the BJP spokesperson alleged.
