Bhubaneswar: Indian Air Force (IAF) Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman who was captured in Pakistan on February 27 and returned back to his homeland on Friday evening, was welcomed by people and leaders country-wide including Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
"Welcome brave heart Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman back to India; you have made a nation proud with your valour," tweeted Patnaik last night after the pilot was handed over to Indian authorities at Attari integrated check-post (ICP) in Punjab.
Internationally acclaimed sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik had also through sand sculpture yesterday welcomed the brave IAF pilot. He had created a sand art on Puri sea beach with the message “Welcome Home Abhinandan”.
The IAF pilot had shown exemplary courage while in Pakistan's captivity. He is now safe in New Delhi and will undergo a mandated medical check-up before being certified fit to join back his duty.
