Bhubaneswar: Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik took to his twitter handle to issue a statement on the International Disability Day of Persons with Disabilities. He tweeted:
"On International Disability Day, re-affirm our commitment to care and respect everyone who is specially-abled and empower them in all spheres of life for an inclusive and equitable society."
Since 1992, the United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) has been annually observed on 3 December around the world. The day is observed with a focus to encourage an understanding of disability issues and gather support for the dignity, rights, and welfare of the disabled persons. The day also seeks to spread awareness about the benefits from the integration of persons with disability in the political, social, economic and cultural aspect of life.
The theme for this year’s IDPD is “Empowering persons with disabilities and ensuring inclusiveness and equality”. This theme focuses on the empowering persons with disabilities for the inclusive, equitable and sustainable development envisaged in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
