Bhubaneswar: In a bid to streamline the urban transport system in the golden triangle of Bhubaneswar – Cuttack and Puri, the State Government has floated a company Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT).

Under its aegis of CRUT, the State Government has launched an ambitious project called the City Bus Modernisation Project. In the first phase of this project 300 buses will be commissioned, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation Commissioner, Dr Krishan Kumar said.

“The first phase of this bus services network which will commence from November 6, will operate on 9 routes. The services will be flagged off from Biju Patnaik International Airport by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at 11 am on Tuesday,” Dr Kumar said.

These buses will be plying for 15 hours a day, on the 9 routes between morning 7 am and night 10 pm. For the second phase the network plan is under process. “Around 30 buses are already with us and by November 15, an additional 50 to 60 buses will be available,” he added.

The second phase to be commissioned by mid-November will operate on 8 routes. Phase 3 of the project will be launched tentatively by December 10. By end of December all the routes will be operational, the Municipal Commissioner added.
