14 January 2019

Bhubaneswar: With the dawn of the festival of harvest ‘Makar Sankranti’, people across the State thronged to temple to offer prayers and take holy dips. Meanwhile, Odisha Chief Minister greeted all on the occasion and prayed for everyone’s prosperous lives.

“On the holy festival of Makar Sankranti, I extend greetings and warm wihses to everyone. I pray for everyone prosperous lives and hope that everyone celebrates the festival with fervor,” tweeted CM Naveen Patnaik.

After the holy dip, people offered alms to the destitute and poor, and prayed to the Sun God. Many were also seen flying kites and enjoying the bright sun.

The Sun entered "Makar Rashi" on Sunday evening, priests and astrologers said, adding that this would bring a new turn to the lives of people, based on their zodiac signs and placement of planets in their horoscopes.
