Odisha CM Flags Off ‘Mission Shakti Caravan’ For 30 Districts To Aware Women

Bhubaneswar: In a bid to spread massive awareness among the women across the State on the benefits of the ongoing Mission Shakti, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today flagged off the ‘Mission Shakti Caravan’ from the State Secretariat premises here.

Mission Shakti programme was inaugurated by the Chief Minister on March 8, 2001 and now 70 lakh women are being empowered through 6 lakh self help groups (SHGs).

On the occasion, Odisha Women and Child Development Minister Prafulla Samal told media, “The caravan which was flagged off today will last for three months. In each Panchayat, the special vehicle will have its programme for three days while in the Municipality there will be of ten days.”

He informed, “Apart from creating awareness among the women and SHGs, it will also pass on information on the Mission Shakti activities in our State. Each vehicle has a LED TV will show a 30-minute show on Mission Shakti and the State Government’s schemes and activities on it.”

He added, “Also competitions will be held among the local SHGs and they will be awarded. A new feeling will be spread that the State Government has laid stress on the women empowerment. Whatever programmes and schemes are being undertaken by the State Government, those are being after consultations with the women as well as through them and meant for them.”

He further stated “The Chief Minister has already announced that every SHG that has been formed after April 1, 2017, Rs 15,000 seed money will be given by the State Government. Besides, they can avail loan upto Rs 3 lakh interest free. Entrepreneurship training is also being imparted to them. MoU has also been signed for the marketing of the products of the SHGs at the international market. To give respect to the women is our main aim and objective. Our Department is a unique one in the country where women have been employed starting from an orderly to DSW.”

The Minister also informed, “30 vehicles have been flagged of today. Within three days, we will deploy about 118 vehicles. They will be for each district. In case of requirement, extra vehicle will also be provided.”
