Odisha CM Felicitates ‘Hausla-2018’ National Champions With Instant Gift Of Witnessing World Cup Hockey Match

Bhubaneswar: Immensely impressed with the astounding performance and stupendous success of the Odisha children victorious at the national level ‘Hausla-2018’, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today felicitated them at the State Secretariat not only with prize money but also accorded them with an instant gift of witnessing the ongoing Men’s Hockey World Cup match at Kalinga Stadium here.

The curious Chief Minister also offered the prized children of Odisha to share their experiences with him experienced during the contest and was of all praises after being a patient audience to the excellent English narration of a girl student.

Addressing the special function, the Chief Minister said, “You are the best team in the country and the amount of medals you have won is truly praiseworthy.”

When he impromptu asked all the victorious children if any of them would like to see the hockey, there was a huge ‘yes Sir’ in unison. He at once instructed the Sports Secretary to make the necessary arrangements forthwith.

Briefing media, Women and Child Development Minister Prafulla Samal said, “In the second edition of ‘Hausla 2018’, over 37 children of our State had participated in 11 events in the categories of ‘under 13’, ‘under 16’ and ‘under 18’. Our children have become the champion. In the boys’ group contest, they have won 6 first prizes (gold medals), 2 second prizes (silver medals) and a single third. Our children have also become champions in football and chess.”

He added, “Similarly in the girls’ group, they have bagged 5 gold medals, 2 silvers and 2 bronze medals. They have also been the football champion. Hence in total, we have clinched 14 gold medals, 4 silver medals and 3 bronze medals taking the medal tally to 21. Odisha has been the champion in the country among the 29 States while Chhattisgarh is the runners-up.”

“Hon’ble Chief Minister, like last year, also announced today that each of the gold winners will be awarded with prize money of Rs 50,000, each silver winner Rs 30,000 and each bronze winner Rs 20,000. The incentive will be deposited into each winner’s bank account. It has also been decided to award them with special prize from our Department. Chief Minister has also instructed our department Secretary to make arrangements for the children’s wish of witnessing Hockey World Cup match here,” informed the Women and child Development Minister.

Notably, the national level ‘Hausla 2018’ was held at New Delhi from November 26 to 29. It is a Festival for Children residing in Child Care Institutions. Accordingly, 37 under 18 years old children from Odisha’s Child Care Institutions participated in football, chess, athletics, drawing, debate and model carving competitions and became the champion State by bagging the highest amount of 21 medals.
