Odisha CM Felicitates Asian Athletics Medal Winners With Cash Awards

Bhubaneswar: After the conclusion of 22nd Asian Athletics Championships on Sunday at Kalinga Stadium here, host state Odisha's Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday felicitated the 29 medal winners of the Indian contingent with cash awards.

While the CM awarded the gold medal winners with Rs 10 lakhs cash award each, Rs 7.5 lakhs was awarded to each Indian silver medalist and Rs 5 lakhs each to the bronze medalists.

In his reactions after the grand felicitations, Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik said, “It’s indeed a glorious moment for all of us. The athletics team has scripted a new history here at the Kalinga Stadium by topping the medal tally in the 22nd Asian Athletics Championships. My congratulations and best wishes to all of them.”

Indian athlete Manpreet Kaur said, “We feel elated at our coming over here. There is a very good environment. Much better is the support extended to the athletes by the cheerful crowd here.”

Another Indian athlete Neeraj Sharma said, “Feel extremely happy to be in Odisha. The cheering up of the crowd here is excellent. The Odisha Government has set precedence by honouring the sportspersons. It augurs well in the sports arena and would perk up the sportsmen to fare better in future.”

Odisha Sports Minister Chandra Sarathi Behera said, “The whole credit for the successful mega event goes to all the media fraternity, all our departments, especially the denizens of our Bhubaneswar. It’s only for you all, Odisha has carved a niche in the global arena. I thank you all. I’m thankful to hon’ble Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for felicitating the medallists with cash awards. The amount is even not given by the Government of India.”
