Odisha CM Congratulates Hockey Player Birendra Lakra For Being In Indian Squad’s Australia Tour

Bhubaneswar: Soon after the 18-member Indian Men’s Hockey Team for Australia Tour was announced and ace hockey player Birendra Lakra from Odisha being selected for the squad, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today congratulated him as well as conveyed his best wishes to the Indian Men’s Hockey Team.

The Odisha Chief Minister, who is an avid sports lover as well as hockey aficionado, took his official twitter handle and tweeted: “Congratulate ace hockey player from #Odisha, Birendra Lakra for his selection in the 18-member Indian Men’s Hockey Team for Australia Tour to be played in Perth from 10th May. Best wishes to the team.” #OdishaForSports

Notably, Odisha Government under the stewardship of its Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has been the patron of the Indian Hockey teams (both men and women) and has earned accolades worldwide for having successfully hosted the Men’s Hockey World Cup here in the capital city in November last year.

As per reports, defender Birendra Lakra is the only hockey player from Odisha for being selected for the Australia tour slated from May 10 in Perth.

Hockey India on Tuesday announced its 18-member squad for its Australia tour. While Graham Reid has been newly appointed as the chief coach of the Indian team, Manpreet Singh is the captain and Surender Kumar is the vice-captain.
