Odisha CM Condoles Thespian Girish Karnad’s Sad Demise

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has condoled the sad demise of Padma and Jnanpith awardee as well as renowned actor, man of letters, litterateur and playwright Girish Karnad.

The Chief Minister today tweeted: “Saddened to learn about passing away of iconic actor, litterateur, playwright, Padma Shri #GirishKarnad. He will be missed in the world of literature and cinema. May his soul rest in peace.”

Prominent among others who have also offered their condolences are President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, former Prime Minister and Janata Dal-Secular supremo H.D. Deve Gowda and Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers D.V. Sadananda Gowda.

Notably, Jnanpith award winner, multi-lingual actor, well-known theatre personality and noted playwright Girish Karnad passed away at an age of 81 at his home at around 8.30 am today due to age-related symptoms.

According to a family source, Karnad succumbed to multi-organ failure at his residence at Lavelle Road in Bengaluru city's upscale locality near the famous Cubbon Park.
