Bhubaneswar: Bishnu Penthia is aged about 5 years but has difficulty in walking or doing normal activities as other children. A tumour on Bishnu's left foot has been growing since his birth and has taken shape of an enlarged mass of flesh.
Bishnu's father Nakul Penthia is a daily wager who can hardly earn two square meals a day for a family of five. Though he had a strong will to cure Bishnu, Nakul's financial situation was always an impediment for his son's treatment.
Few days back, a local daily carried a report about the little child's plight. The news caught the attention of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. Soon after this, the Odisha CM directed his office to facilitate immediate treatment of the child.
As per the directives of the CM, officials of National Bal Surakshya Programme went to Bishnu's house at Lathiguda in Jeypore of Koraput district. The medical condition of the child was assessed and he was taken to Boriguma hospital. A day later, Bishnu was referred to Koraput district headquarter hospital.
After receiving preliminary treatment Bishnu was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. Today, Bishnu arrived at SCB Cuttack with his parents and Dr Alok Bisoi of Boriguma.
The little child has been admitted to the Plastic Surgery Department of SCB and is under the observation of HiD, Dr AP Pattnayak. According to sources, Bishnu will undergo a corrective surgery and will be soon able to walk comfortably.
Following his admission at SCB, Bishnu's parents have expressed deep gratitude to the Chief Minister for his timely intervention which made the child's treatment possible.
