Bhubaneswar: With onion prices on a rise in Odisha, the Food Supplies department has decided to send a senior officer to Delhi to hold a meeting with senior officials and experts to bring the price-surge under control.

Food Supplies Department Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain today said that he had received a message from the Central Minister of Food and Civil Supplies who expressed concern on this matter.

"After receiving Union Minister's message I held a discussion with the Chief Secretary today. Our Department's Secretary will be going to Delhi and initiate negotiations on the onion prices." A strategy will be readied to meet the onion requirement of the State and bridge the demand and supply and demand gap.

"In the past we have procured onion from National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd.(NAFED). But our priority is quality of the vegetable, and our Secretary will be stressing on this issue. We will not buy sub-standard onion which lead to consumer discontentment," added Swain.
