Bhubaneswar: Ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) today came down heavily on Odisha Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) alleging partisan stance under pressure despite gross violations of model code of conduct allegedly by its political bête noire BJP.

Convening a press meet, aggrieved BJD stated that the CEO has been acting under pressure of the BJP and the same has been seen on several instances. Despite repeated demands by the BJD before the CEO for action, no action is being taken buckling under the pressure of the BJP.

Addressing the media, BJD spokesperson highlighted on the instances of ‘KALIA Yojana versus PM-KISAN’, ‘false intelligence report’, ‘Pitambar Acharya Issue’, ‘misuse’ of petrol pumps and gas agencies, ‘non-removal’ of hoardings/banners/signages/flexes showing surrogate advertisements, ‘non-sealing’ of the State borders, violation of model code of conduct through ‘Ujjwala Yojana’, ‘Pratisruti Patra’, ‘Doordarshan’, Baijayant Panda ‘video vans’ and ‘Skill India’ violations were highlighted at the press meet.

“Fully buckling under the pressure of BJP, the CEO is unable to be impartial in Odisha. Hence, very soon we are going to move the Election Commission at Delhi. We will put forth our demand. If it (Election Commission) believes in free and fair election in Odisha as well as democratic rules and regulations, action must be taken against the violations,” the party stated.

It further stated, “The people of Odisha are watching and will give a just and resounding reply to the BJP in this election. The people of Odisha are shocked at this pressurizing of BJP on the CEO and the wilting of the CEO under pressure from BJP and acting as per the BJP dictum which is unfortunate and goes against the ethos of conducting a free and fair election in Odisha.”

On the Kalia Yojana issue, the BJD spokesperson explained that after 31st March, 2019, the next installment of KALIA Yojana support was supposed to have been provided to 20 lakh farmers of the State. But the Kalia Yojana was stopped by CEO under pressure of the BJP which has also been admitted by the BJP in a press meet on 30th March, 2019 that it was indeed their pressure that led to the CEO coming up with a press note a day before in this regard.

“This proves what the BJD has been stating,” he argued.

On one hand, the PM-Kisan is being allowed to function which came two months after Kalia Yojana, but 20 lakh farmers of Odisha are being deprived of the benefits of Kalia Yojana by the CEO under pressure of BJP. The people of Odisha and the lakhs of farmers will give a befitting reply to the BJP in this election, the BJD argued.

On the contrary, neither BJP’s nor any counter from the Odisha CEO was available till the filing of this report.
