Puri: Late last night, unidentified miscreants allegedly looted from the donation box and also tried to steal the Sita idol from a Ram Mandir located inside the premises of 12th century Jagannath Temple shrine here.

According to servitor Baidyanath Mohapatra, around Rs 10,000 cash has been stolen from the donation box. Mohapatra said that he had locked the doors at 9:45 pm last night and had departed for home.

He said, "When I opened the temple doors today morning, I found the netted doors were broken. Then I noticed that the donation box was ransacked. The Sita idol was also displaced which means that the robbers were trying to steal the 1 feet Astadhatu idol."

On intimation, the Singhadwar police rushed to the spot and began an investigation into the incident.
