Odisha: BMC Goes Strict On ‘Kalyan Mandaps’ In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: A meeting on regulating Kalyan Mandap activities under in Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation limits was chaired by Municipal Commissioner Prem Chand Choudhury today. So far, BMC had served notice to 94 numbers of kalyan mandaps/marriage halls having irregularities with regards to Building Plan Approval, Holding Tax, Trade License, Parking Facility, etc. As of now, 14 of kalyan mandaps/marriage halls out of 94 have partially complied it. 

Hence a scrutiny committee has been formed to look into the matter. The committee shall look into the detailed required criteria of all the identified kalian mandaps/marriage halls.  The committee will review on availability of road, availability of adequate parking space, fire clearance for commercial use, waste disposal system and any other criteria, if necessary.

The Authority has stressed on terms and conditions of Kalyan mandaps:

  • The route indicating the start and endpoint of procession along with the total length shall be a part of the Terms & Conditions of the approval. The route needs to be clearly demarcated on a Google map to be attached with the approval letter.
  • During advance booking, the Mandap authority shall have to provide the route details of procession that is clearly marked on a Google map, which is the responsibility of the owner.
  • BMC shall also intimate route map of the procession approved for a Kalyan Mandap to the Commissioner of Police, Bhubaneswar for ensuring compliance of the same.
  • Cases shall be filed in the ODA court against unapproved Kalyan Mandap/Marriage Halls.
