Odisha: Block Vice-Chairman Prime Accused In BDO Kidnapping Case

29 March 2019

Bolangir: Puintala Block Vice-Chairman Raghuanth Gurandi has been identified as prime accused in the kidnapping of local Block Development Officer (BDO) Saroj Mishra which occurred today afternoon.

Gurandi, accompanied with around six of his accomplices barged into Mishra's office, locked the door and threatened him for a favour. As the BDO disagreed to the demand citing Model Code of Conduct in place, he was forcefully taken to an unknown location on an SUV by Gurandi and his associates, said Bolangir SP K Siba Subramani.

"The Block Vice Chairman has criminal antecedents with at least five to six cases pending against him. Mishra has named Gurandi in the preliminary inquiry and a formal complaint is being registered. We have launched a manhunt to nab the persons involved in this incident," the SP added.

The district SP formed four teams which started a search for Mishra soon after the matter was reported. As a high alert was sounded, the miscreants, sensing further trouble, assaulted and abandoned Mishra at a secluded spot within the district. The BDO then managed to rush back to the Sub-Collector's office and narrated the entire ordeal.
