Bhubaneswar: BJP Mahila Morcha state vice-president Sushama Biswal, along with hundreds of her supporters, joined BJD in presence of party supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at his residence Naveen Niwas here on Monday.

Sushama had been the BJP candidate for Nilgiri Assembly segment in the 2014 elections and had secured over 49,000 votes. She dumped the posts of BJP observer in two districts and joined BJD.

Addressing mediapersons, Sushama said she entered politics in order to reach near the people and therefore had contested the 2014 polls from Nilgiri assembly constituency. However, she faced many hurdles on her way and was hurt for not being able to achieve her target.

She welcomed the announcement made by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik of providing 33 per cent reservation for women, which motivated her to join BJD. She hopes of getting a responsibility where she will be able to serve people.

On being asked about if she would contest the elections, Sushma said, "The decision lies with the Chief Minister and party. If the party has faith on me, it will provide me ticket and I will contest the polls."
