Bhubaneswar: Former BJP leader and party’s spokesperson Biswajit Mohanty today joined the Biju Janata Dal (BJD). Senior BJP leader from Athagarh Biswa Sundar Mishra also joined the BJD at Naveen Nivas today.

The two former saffron party leaders from Cuttack district were inducted into the regional party in the presence of Chief Minister and BJD president Naveen Patnaik at his residence.

Mohanty, who recently resigned from the BJP, was a ticket aspirant from the Cuttack-Barabati seat. However, former Minister Samir Dey was fielded from the constituency.

Mishra, on the hand, contested from Athagarh assembly segment on BJP ticket in 2014. "The BJP did not show any respect towards dedicated foot soldiers like us. The party pronounces that it endorses the cause of poor, but the reality is different. It scouts for the wealthy and mighty. The party has forgotten the poor," said Mishra.

Mohanty said that his focus would be development of Cuttack for which he joined the BJD. "I have joined the BJD, a party whose agenda is development. I would dedicate myself to the development of Cuttack as a BJD member."
