Bhubaneswar: The Interim Budget-2019 has benefited the middle class tax payers who have a major role in economic development of the country, said Odisha BJP president Basant Panda on Friday.

Panda said the income tax exemption limit has been raised to Rs 5 lakh and for another Rs 1.5 lakh in investments. It will have a major impact on the middle class with a total annual income of Rs 6.5 lakh. This will provide tax benefit to over 3 crore middle class tax payers.

He further said, with the Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, farmers with holdings up to two hectares will receive a sum of Rs 6,000 per year directly in their bank accounts. It will benefit over 12 crore farmer families including small and marginal farmers.

Panda claimed that no government had considered about the labourers working in unorganised sector. He said Rs 3000 montly pension under Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Mandhan Yojana for 42 crore unorganised sector workers in country is a huge step.

Senior Congress leader Suresh Kumar Routray ironically said that if Prime Minister Narendra Modi who was earlier not hindering to farmers' demands has decided to provide Rs 6000 to farmers with land up to five acres, it is a welcome step.

Let the poor sections of our society receive the assistance and stand on their feet. Development of the farmers will indirectly impact the growth of the country, he added.
