Bhubaneswar: Adding yet another laurel to the crown, Odisha was adjudged the Best Heritage Destination in domestic circuit by a travel portal cum magazine Travel + Leisure.
The win was part of the Reader’s Choice India’s Best Awards 2019. The winners were announced last night which revealed the forerunners in the segments of travel, hospitality, trendsetting, and conscious travel — the theme for the year.
Odisha along with Madhya Pradesh won the Best Heritage Destination award. Its neighbour West Bengal won as the Best Food Destination, Andhra Pradesh as the Best Family Destination, and Chhattisgarh as the Best Cultural Destination.
The historical state of Odisha has a rich religious and cultural heritage that goes back more than two thousand years. It is home to numerous heritage spots of Hindu, Buddist and Jain religion which are spread all over the State. Srimandir, Konark Temple, Lingaraj Temple, Chausathi Yogini, Khandagiri, Udayagiri, Rani Gumpha, Lalitgiri, Ratnagiri, Dhauli Shanti Stupa, Khiching, Langudi, and Padmapur are just a few of the crown jewels Odisha is proud of.
The award is a testimony to the fact that travellers across India have Odisha on their travel bucket list or have had an eventful trip in the past.
