Sambalpur: Director of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) Dr Aswini Kumar Pujahari tendered his resignation from the post today morning. Pujahari had been in the eye of the storm for using unproven therapies for treatment.

Addressing a press conference today, Pujahari said, “I am a hardworking doctor and I want to work for 12-14 hours per day. I have been sitting idle since the day I was sent on leave. I don’t like sitting idle without any work, so I have decided to leave.”

Last year on December, Pujahari had been served a show-cause notice that stated, “I am directed to inform you that you shall proceed on leave till your reply to the show-cause notice is received and disposed by Government.”

This move had come after a video of him using unproven therapies for treatment with salt during a surgery had emerged. “I submitted my reply and I have been waiting for more than one month. I could continue waiting for my reinstating order to come but I don’t like sitting idle. I could do a case but I don’t want to spend a lot of money. Having no options left, I decided to resign so that I could pursue something else,” he concluded.
