Bhubaneswar: The State Assembly on Thursday approved the demand for grants of Rs 3808 crores 35 lakhs and 85,000 for the department of ST & SC Development, Minorities & Backward Classes Welfare. It includes the administrative expenditure of Rs 769 crores 45 lakhs and 18,000 and programme expenditure of Rs 3038 crores 90 lakhs and 67,000.
ST & SC Minister Jagannath Sarka had today informed that people of 62 Scheduled Tribes (STs) and 93 Scheduled Caste (SCs) are residing in the State. As per 2011 census, they comprise around 39.98 per cent of the total population of Odisha. Besides, 5.5 per cent of the total population belong to minority communities. The State Government has implemented various schemes for their all-round development, he added.
The Minister listed out the sources from which his department receives grants and the expenses met. Briefing about the future projects planned by the department for the development of people belonging to scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, minority communities and backward classes and presented the demand for grants for the year 2020-21.
