Odisha: Angul Police Seizes Drug Peddlers’ Property Worth Rs 19.19 Lakh

Angul: Over the last few months the district police carried out a drive against drug peddlers and seized more than 122 grams of brown sugar. During this drive, 24 persons were arrested and remanded in judicial custody. Further investigation in these cases revealed that the accused persons had amassed a number of movable and immovable assets by using the money earned from narcotic trade.

Some of the accused in these cases are Subrat Barik and Sugyani Dehury of Kukudang, Kalindi Sahu of Kumanda, Krushna Chandra Sahu of Kurudol, Santosh Sahu of Giranga, Nagen Behera of Balaramprasad, Sriram Sahu of Banarpal and Prakash Sethi of Kulad. The illegally acquired assets of these persons have been valued at Rs 19.19 lakh.

Angul SP Jagmohan Meena said, "It was found that the eight accused persons have illegally acquired properties from the proceeds of illegal trade of narcotics. Hence, under Chapter VA of NDPS Act, their illegally acquired properties have been seized.

Immovable property in their names or in names of their relatives, if purchased from the illegal proceeds of crime, shall also be seized/freezed under NDPS act. While further inquiry is on, sustained drive against the trade of narcotics shall be continued, he added.
