Bhubaneswar: The gateway from the east India to South and South-east Asia has been ensured as AirAsia’s Bangkok-Bhubaneswar flight started from last night.
The AirAsia flight services from Bhubaneswar to Bangkok began with 165 passengers, who boarded from the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) yesterday night. The flight took off at 12:25 am after lamp lighting by the Minister of Tourism Ashok Chandra Panda at 9.30pm before start of the check-in.
The AirAsia flight also received a water cannon salute for the inaugural flight services from Bhubaneswar to the international destination. Reportedly, the 165 passengers were also given a customary welcome at the airport before take off.
Operating three days in a week, the Bhubaneswar-Bangkok AirAsia flight FD-113 will fly from Bhubaneswar at 12.25 am on Sunday, Wednesday and Friday and reach Bangkok at 4.30 am (according to Bangkok time).
Meanwhile, the flight FD-112 will take off from Bangkok at 10.35 pm (as per Bangkok time) and arrive at 11.55 pm in Bhubaneswar. Earlier, airline sources had said that promotional fare of Rs 2,999 per trip would be announced, in a bid to attract customers.
Expressing happiness over the announcement, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had earlier tweeted, “Our mission to make #Odisha the gateway from the east to South & South-east Asia and the world gets a fillip with ensuing direct connectivity between #Bhubaneswar and #Bangkok by @AirAsia; will go a long way to further trade, industry, art and culture #ConnectingOdisha.”
