Odisha: After Communal Tension, Kendrapada Faces Prohibitory Orders, Internet Cut

Kendrapada: A day after communal tension threw life out of gear in Kendrapada, prohibitory orders were clamped in the town on Thursday. Sub-Collector Sanjay Kumar Mishra ordered a curfew in Kendrapada town from from 4 pm on Thursday till 8 am on Friday.

To check rumour mongering on social media and mobile phones internet connectivity has been regulated in the town, DG Police, Dr RP Sharma said.

"Prompt action by the police checked the situation from escalating. The town is under surveillance with patrol vans making rounds in most of the areas," added Sharma.

While there was no violence on Thursday, a bandh was called by one of the groups. Additional forces have been delpoyed to prevent any untoward incident. A peace committee meeting will be called soon once the situation normalises, the DGP said.
