Bhubaneswar: Apart from the FIR registered in Puri district against former Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda, Delhi-based journalist Abhijit Iyer Mitra for their allegedly illegal helicopter flying over restricted zones of Chilika Lake, Konark Sun Temple and Puri Jagannath Temple, a case has also been filed against Panda, Iyer and their friend Arati Tikoo Singh in the SDJM Court here yesterday (September 20) for Abhijit’s anti-Odisha remarks.

Briefing media, complainant-cum-advocate Lalatendu Das said, “Since September 16, the people of Odisha have been on their toes the way Odisha’s dignity has been tarnished without any rhyme and reason. It includes Odisha’s Lord, Odisha’s soil, Odisha’s sculpture and even the journalists and legislators have not been spared. Being an Odia I have been deeply hurt. As I realized that the police are not taking up the case in a proper manner, I knocked the doors of the esteemed court of law praying for action against the accused.”

“The main accused are Abhijit Iyer Mitra, former MP and distinguished personality of Odisha Baijayant Panda and their friend Arati Tikoo Singh,” he informed.

He further informed, “My complaint is against the manner Abhijit Iyer Mitra has blamed Odisha. Whole Odisha is now rocked because he has committed this act accompanied by a former MP of Odisha (Baijayant Panda).”

“Even though bail has been granted to Abhijit by the court, it doesn’t mean that he has been absolved of his crime. As the case we have filed today, he could be brought under the loop of further investigation and if warranted, he could also be arrested,”

Notably, such a development has taken place the day Odisha Police got Abhijit arrested in Delhi through Nizamuddin Police Station for his anti-Odisha remarks as well as hurting religious sentiment. However, the Saket Court there has granted conditional bail to Abhijit and directed him to join the ongoing investigation by Odisha Police.

Also on the same day, a privilege motion was taken up in Odisha Assembly against Abhijit and a House Committee has been formed chaired by the Leader of Opposition to probe into it and submit report.
