Odisha: Abhijit Iyer Mitra Admitted To Capital Hospital In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Abhijit Iyer Mitra, who is currently behind the bars for hurting Odia people’s sentiments, was admitted in Capital Hospital late last night following health problems, informed the hospital authorities.

While reports state that Iyer is suffering from stomach pain, the Director of Capital Hospital confirmed to OMMCOM NEWS, “He was admitted late last night after some surgical problems. The Surgery specialist is currently treating him and it may take 2-4 days.”

Iyer, who is currently lodged in Jharpada Jail, was brought under tight security to Capital Hospital following his complaints of feeling under the weather.

Iyer was arrested in connection with a case filed at the Sahid Nagar police station under Indian Penal Code sections 294 (obscene acts and songs), 295A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage reli¬gious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or reli¬gious beliefs), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language etc.) 500 (defamation), 506 (criminal intimidation) and section 67 (punishment for publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) of the Information Technology Act.

On November 17, Leader of Opposition and House Committee chairman Narasingha Mishra said that Abhijit Iyer Mitra has voluntarily and sincerely begged apology for which the House should accept it.

He also informed that the report submitted has been accepted by the House. He also stated that the House has been requested to provide all requisite documents and information to Abhijit so that he could enhance his knowledge of Odisha’s art and cultural heritage.
