Kalahandi: A newborn girl, who was apparently abandoned by the parents, has been rescued in Maningapadar village in Bhawanipatna on Monday.

She was found by Pratibha Shikha, a resident of the same village who was out in the dawn to attend nature's call. She reached out to the girl when she heard her crying and immediately rescued her.

When the villagers were informed about the matter, they took it to the police authorities following which; the newborn was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).

Upon asking, the doctor informed that, “The child was premature, and hence underweight. But her overall health is fine”.

The police has initiated a further probe into the matter.
