Dhenkanal: Yet another new born girl was abandoned and later rescued at about 7.10 am on Saturday near Kamakhya Nagar by Sandhya Rani Beura, IIC, Sadar Police

Locals reported of an abandoned infant to the Sadar Police who immediately rescued the child. The girl was rushed to District Headquarters Hospital. Doctors present declared the child as critical and hence she was admitted to Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU).

Dr Santosh Kumar Sahoo, Pediatric, informed, “The girl child was probably abandoned immediately within hours of her birth. She weighed 2.2 kgs upon arrival which is very low for a new born child. She also suffered from hypothermia and was covered in sand. However, post –treatment her condition is improving.”

The Police are yet to figure out the ‘who and why’ part of the abandonment. A probe has been initiated
