Odisha: 660 Kg Ganja, Rs 8 Lakh Cash Seized, 2 Persons Arrested By Malkangiri Police

Malkangiri: In yet another major success for the district police here in curbing illegal contrabands and smuggling, 660 kg of ganja was seized today along with the arrests of two persons.

As per the Malkangiri PS Case No. 180 dtd. 09.10.2018 U/S 20 (b) (ii) (c) NDPS Act, besides the seizure of 660 kg of ganja, one Mahindra pick up van, cash of Rs 8, 00,000/- (eight lakh) and four mobile handsets have also been seized.

The arrested persons have been identified as Ananda Jena of Talasahi and Dillip Kumar Bala under Malkangiri PS in the southern Odisha district here.

Malkangiri SP Jagmohan Meena informed media, “On 9 October 2018 (today) morning, Malkangiri police got reliable information that ganja is being transported in Padamgiri area. Quickly, a police team was formed under the leadership of Dr Saravana Vivek M (IPS). The police team intercepted a Mahindra Bolero carrying ganja based on the intelligence input.”

“Due to the swift action taken by the police, police were able to arrest two persons carrying 660 kg ganja in Mahindra Bolero pick up vehicle and also seized Rs 8 lakh cash which the accused persons were carrying with them,” he added.

He also informed that the police team comprised of SI Manas Ranjan Swain, ASI Manua Bidika, head constable Madan Mohan Amanatya, constable Binod Maharana, constable Sudarshan Panda, constable Diganta Bihari Prabhusohay and constable Jayakumar Behera.

Till now in 2018, 72 NDPS cases have been registered in Malkangiri district resulting in seizure of 16,575 kg ganja and arrest of 148 persons. In all these cases, 18 two wheelers, 44 four wheelers, 7 trucks have been seized, the SP stated.
