Odisha: 5 Maoists Killed In Gunfire With Security Forces In Malkangiri

Malkangiri: In a major operation, as many as five Maoists, including two women cadre, were killed in gunfire with security forces in Chitrakonda-Papluru area here today morning.

Police officials informed that on receiving a tip-off about a Maoist camp in the area, personnel from Special Operations Group (SOG) and District Voluntary Force (DVF) under the charge of Malkangiri SP raided the camp following which an encounter ensued between the red rebels and the security forces last night.

As per latest reports, three bodies have been identified and two are yet to be recognized. The three deceased are- Unga Sodhi, ACM cadre; Mase Madhi, Party member and Seema Kendruka, Party Member.

Reportedly, the camp was destroyed and huge cache of arms and ammunition seized. However, Leader of Kalimela Dalam Division of CPI(Maoist) Ranadeb managed to flee the spot, said sources.

Till last reports came in, the encounter was still in progress.
