Cuttack: Contrary to the role of a parent, who is supposed to be the guardian and protector of child, a mother had locked up her three-year-old boy alone in their house for several hours and had left for work.

Childline officials rescued the boy from his locked house in Bidanasi Krushak Bazaar area here on Thursday afternoon. Reportedly, locals heard the boy scream for water from the window and immediately informed Childline authorities. With the help of local police, the child was rescued by breaking open the tin door.

Shrikant Mohanty, member of Child Welfare Committee said, "The child has been produced before CWC. We have kept the child in a special adoption agency where he will be rehabilitated."

"FIR will be lodged on mother’s name for wilfully neglecting the child. She used to do this everyday. As per the law, investigation will proceed and action will be taken," he added.
