Keonjhar: In a shocking incident, a 28-day-old girl, among three infants was branded with hot iron at a Juanga Sahi in Bimala panchayat here on Sunday morning.

Reportedly, a village quack had branded the three infants with hot iron in presence of their respective parents. Family members said that the babies were suffering from severe stomach ache. Unproven traditional healing backfired when the girl, who is hardly a month old, sustained severe burn injuries and had to be immediately rushed to Telkoi Community Health Centre in a critical condition.

The 21st century is an age of vast development in medical sciences in which doctors and scientists have evolved medicines and equipment to cure most of the diseases and ailments which were once considered incurable. However sadly, superstition continues to pollute the sane of minds in Odisha.
