Khorda: Around 260 students, both girls and boys, who were living in the hostel of Niladriprasad Ashram School under Banapur block of Odisha’s Khorda district have abandoned the school alleging the headmaster Bhabani Shankar Parida to be responsible for the death of a Class VIII student Bikash Pradhan.

Notably, Bikash took ill on December 2, and his fellow-mates informed the ashram school headmaster, but he did not take adequate measures to admit him in a hospital. As his condition deteriorated the next day, he called the family of the boy in the evening to take him away.

“When we reached the school, my son Bikash was very ill. He was unable to even speak. We took in that condition and reached home at around 9 pm on Monday (Dec 3). The next day morning, we rushed him to the hospital but he vomited blood en route and died,” cried out his father.

The lackadaisical attitude of the headmaster cost the student his life, allege the students. The students along with the family of the deceased and the villagers protested against this attitude of the headmaster. Following this, the Sarpanch of the village arranged a discussion between the villagers, students and the headmaster. Amidst the chaos, the headmaster managed to give a slip to the crowd and flee from the spot.

This resulted in a revolt among the ashram students (100 girls and 160 boys) who have left the hostel. No district authority has yet intervened into this matter.
