Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force of Crime Branch have recovered two Ashtadhatu idols worth Rs 2.5 crore from a residential house at Khandagiri on Wednesday. The house-owner, Sayed Zilnoor Kata alias Raja of Jadupur has been arrested by the STF on serious charges.

According to the STF, the sleuths were tipped about an antique smuggling racket which was operated by Raja. He used to procure the precious idols from temples and sell them in the grey market at exorbitant prices.

The two Ashtadhatu idols weigh 18.44 kg and 12.60 kg respectively. The accused had no documents to corroborate his ownership following which he was taken into custody, the STF said. The sleuths are trying to establish Raja's connections in the local and international markets.
