Bhubaneswar: A web portal for strict enforcement of State Government's direction to shops and commercial establishments to display Odia signboards was launched by Labour & Employees' State Insurance Minister Susanta Singh on Tuesday.
As per sub-section 2-a of Section 4 of the Odisha Shops & Commercial Establishments Act, 1956 it is mandatory that the name of the establishment is displayed in a sign board in front of the establishment in Odia language prominently in addition to other language, if any.
Section 35 of the said Act reads, "Whoever contravenes any of the provisions of the Act shall, on conviction, be punishable with fine which for the first offence shall not be less than one thousand rupees and may extend to five thousand rupees and for the second or subsequent offence shall not be less than two thousand rupees and may extend to twenty-five thousand rupees”.
In order to implement the Act with active participation of citizens, the Labour & Employees' State Insurance department has launched the portal http://odiaphalaka.odisha.gov.in/ through which one can lodge complaint against any shops or establishments not complying with the Act and departmental authorities can take appropriate action on it.
