Bhubaneswar: A security guard from Odisha was killed while two others sustained critical injuries when an iron gate fell on them at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc.) on C.V. Raman Road in Bengaluru on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Goutham Biswal (24), a native of Bari area in Jajpur. Two other security guards, identified as Anil Kumar from Bihar and Vinayak from Odisha, have been injured and are undergoing treatment at M.S. Ramaiah Hospital.
The newly installed 6-feet-high and 15-feet-wide iron gate weighed about 500 kg, stated reports. The incident, that has been captured in a CCTV footage, occured on Sunday afternoon when Biswal was opening the gate to let a car in.
Reportedly, locals gathered at the spot on hearing a loud crash and were able to pull out the three security guards from under the gate. They were rushed to the nearby hospital where Gowtham was declared dead.
Soon after the incident, other security personnel gathered at the spot and staged a protest demanding ex-gratia for kin of deceased and action against the people responsible for the accident.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered under Section 304A (death due to negligence) of the Indian Penal Code and cops are further probing into the matter.
