Jeypore: An inspiration for tribal women and agricultural activist Kamala Pujhari, who has been selected for Padma Shri Award recently for her contribution in agricultural sector, was admitted to Koraput district headquarters hospital (DHH) after falling ill last night.
Reports stated that she has been diagnosed with high blood pressure. A tribal hailing from Koraput, Kamala is known for promoting organic farming. Her passionate initiatives to preserve traditional rice varieties in the tribal heartland was first recognised by the Swaminathan Commission as she has managed to indigenously preserve 100 types of paddy till the date.
It is notable to mention here that the State stands tall and proud as three personalities from the State have been selected to receive the prestigious Padma Shri award this year. They are Kamala Pujhari (Agriculture), Devarapalli Prakash Rao (Social Work-Affordable Education) and Daitari Naik (Social Work).
