Jharsuguda: Parents of deceased Odia album actress Simran Singh launched an indefinite hunger strike in front of the Jharsuguda Collector office from today seeking justice for their daughter.

They alleged inaction by Burla Police in probe of Simran’s murder case though it has been over one month since her death and demanded a Crime Branch or CBI probe into the case. They further sought arrest of Simran's in-laws and one Ruku Suna, a relative of Simran’s beau Yuga Suna.

Earlier in January, Burla Police had affixed a 'Latka' (proclamation notice) on Simran’s in-laws house at Belpara in Bolangir after they failed to depose before the police despite several notices. Though the notice has been issued on January 12 and the family members had been asked to depose by Jan 16, the members are still absconding.

The person in question, Ruku Suna, had also received a notice to depose before police for questioning in connection with the case.

Meanwhile, Jharsuguda District Secretary of Communist Party of India (CPI), Sarangdhar Mishra, has extended his support to Simran's parents and demanded a high-level probe into the case. He threatened that the CPI will launch a mass agitation in coming days if their demands are not met.

It is notable to mention here that, Simran was found dead under a bridge of Mahanadi river near Goira Matha under Burla police limits in Sambalpur on January 3. A murder case had been registered by the Burla police on the basis of an FIR lodged by Simran’s father. The husband of the deceased has been arrested and is currently lodged in jail.
