Cuttack: Former Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) Secretary Asirbad Behera, who is at present in judicial custody on Friday, cast his vote in the cricket body's elections through postal ballot.
Behera, who was arrested by the CBI for his alleged involvement in the multi-crore Artha Tatwa chit fund scam and is in Jharpada jail in Bhubaneswar following rejection of his bail plea. He is currently undergoing treatment at the SCB Medical College and Hospital here.
Behera being above 70 years of age and has served the OCA for a cumulative period of over nine years though not eligible to contest elections still remains a voter as he represents the Rising Student Club here.
He had sought permission of the Jharpada Jail Superintendent to cast his vote which was allowed.
Accordingly, a postal ballot was sent to the Jharpada Jail Superintendent by OCA Electoral Officer M L Mazumdar. A jail official on Friday carried the ballot paper to Behera at the SCB Medical College wherein the latter cast his vote and the same was deposited by the former with the OCA Election Officer in a sealed cover.
This is the first OCA election to be held after the implementation of the Supreme Court-approved Justice Rajendra Mal Lodha committee recommendations to overhaul cricket administration in the country.
Behera had quit his post in February 2017 following Lodha Committee recommendations.
