Bhubaneswar: Normal banking service in the cyclone-hit districts of Odisha will resume by May 13. While banks have been operating in all the areas affected by Fani, in Puri, some banks are yet to resume work in full pace.

Addressing media persons here on Friday, Principal Secretary Finance, Ashok Meena said that banks have been advised to follow the Kerala model by accepting minimum documents required for providing loans to the affected persons.

A notification stating that calamity has hit 14 districts, 142 blocks and 52 urban local bodies was issued today by the Special Relief Commissioner. This notification along with the circular of the Reserve Bank of India will be applicable to designate the situation as a special case, Meena said.

Very soon a circular will be issued by the Government on agricultural loans after making an assessment of the losses made by farmers, he added.

Banks have also been advised to make arrangements for providing ATM service to the customers in Bhubaneswar and Puri. “It was decided that the banks will engage 15 mobile ATM vans for Puri and 15 for Bhubaneswar,” he added.

A high-level meeting on normalisation of banking operations was presided by Chief Secretary AP Padhi at the Secretariat on Friday. The bank authorities in the affected districts have agreed to work on the off days also.
