Bhubaneswar: The State Government on Saturday promoted eight IPS officers within the state whereas suspended IPS Satish Gajbhiye did not get any promotion.
Four IPS officers Deepak Kumar, Ashish Singh, Nitinjeet Singh and Satyabrata Bhoi got Selection Grade.
Four more IPS officers, including Angul SP Kavita Jalan and Sundargarh SP Nikhil Kanodia have been promoted to DIG rank.
In another development, Dayanidhi Gochhayat has been appointed as Kendrapada SP as the incumbent SP Nitinjeet Singh goes on Central deputation.
Notably, former Kendrapra SP Satish Gajbhiye was suspended for using excessive force against the demonstrators in the town during the agitation against self-proclaimed godman Sarathi Baba. He was also found guilty of showing inappropriate behaviour towards the citizens and breaking All India Services Code by raising controversial matters on social media.
News channels showed Gajbhiye leading his force with helmet over head and baton in hand, during the clash. He drew flak for police excesses during the protests and was removed as SP on August 7, 2015 by the Chief Minister, a day before Sarathi Baba was arrested by crime branch on charges of forgery, illegal confinement, arms act and other sections.
